Choir

A new era has begun in St. Columba and, with it, the choir are hoping there are some folk out there who would like to swell their numbers

Within the next few months, we will prepare and sing some new anthems, including negro spirituals, using piano instead of organ. The new electronic instrument in the Church was purchased with money from the Smellie bequest and will be a useful alternative (especially when key changes are needed) to the excellent piano, which has a fine sound.

Each time I write, I ask for new members – what Organist doesn’t? – so please think about it!

Practices on Wednesdays at 7.00pm.

Our pipe organ is a fine instrument, The ‘Great’, ‘Swell’ and ‘Pedal’ organs sound really well (a few noted in the pedals need tuning). The ‘Choir’ organ does need some work, mainly tuning. Certainly, the ‘Choir’ organ has recovered quite well from the overheating of the church in the latter part of 2006. The organ does not take kindly to dry heat, especially when it continues for a lengthy period, so, having received permission to install a humidifier, I want to arrange this as soon as possible.

All ages – men and women – would be most welcome. We meet on Wednesdays at 7 till 8.30pm in the Sinclair Street Hall and for ½ hour before the service on Sunday mornings. So, if you have ever wondered if singing is for you – do come along on a Wednesday .and try us out!
