Thought for the week-The Princess & the Pea

As a child many of us would have come across the Fairytale of The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Anderson. Much later! I came across it again but this time it was used to help illustrate an idea about the spiritual journey. Briefly the story reveals the ultimate test to find out whether or not a girl is a real Princess.
Little Peas
During the course of our own Spiritual journey, rather like the Princess, we can become more sensitive and feel the little peas between layers and layers of mattresses. Let me briefly explain. Learning about the Nature of God through our Lord Jesus Christ can, more often than not lead to developing a kind of oscillation between the ultimate joys of fresh understanding or rather like the hard peas, make us more sensitive to the increasing awareness of self-critical attitudes; unloving thoughts or worry about this thing or that, which start to make us feel acutely uncomfortable. Ultimately a point is reached that anything less than perfect Love towards our selves or others becomes unwelcome. We discover Love is all that will truly satisfy. Everything else produces discomfort. What a relief though when through our Lord Jesus Christ we can find and decide to toss out a few ‘hard peas’. Walking freer and lighter, becoming more honest, forgiving and open with ourselves and others. This motivates us to keep on asking and seeking His help to continue the sorting-out process and exchange old thoughts for kinder ones, inspiring our commitment to be more like Jesus and the Sons & Daughters God intended us to be.
Thank you Father, Amen.
