Thought for the week – Who invented the week anyway?

It’s good, isn’t it, that this week is only seven days long: thank God for that. What if it had been twenty-seven days? Twenty seven days until next week-end, until the next church service, or until a more interesting thought for the week. How bad would that have been?

By the seventh day God finished what he had been doing and stopped working. He blessed the seventh day and set it apart as a special day. Genesis Chapter 2, verse 2.

Jesus concluded “ The Sabbath was made for the good of man: man was not made for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath” Mark Chapter 2, verse 27.

Both quotations are from the Good News version of the Bible.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you invented the week as you did – for us. Help me to use my time well this week, and to keep Sunday special. Amen.
